STRENGTH IN GOD: THE COURAGE TO STAND FIRM

STRENGTH IN GOD: THE COURAGE TO STAND FIRM

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we gather to explore a powerful message from the Scriptures that calls us to a life of unwavering strength and courage. Let us delve into the timeless exhortation found in Joshua 1:9, where God commands, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

1. Divine Command for Courage:

God’s command to Joshua was not just an isolated instruction; it was a clarion call to all believers. When God calls you to action, He also equips you with the courage necessary to fulfil His purposes. Joshua was tasked with leading the Israelites into the Promised Land, a daunting task filled with uncertainties. Similarly, in our lives, we face numerous challenges and unforeseen circumstances. The message remains the same: we are to be strong and courageous, trusting in the Lord’s unceasing Presence.

2. Strength amid Adversity:

Strength and courage are not just for the calm and foreseeable moments. It is during storms and trials that our faith is tested and our true strength is revealed. Consider the Apostle Paul, who in 2 Corinthians 12:10 declares, “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Our most profound strength and courage often emerge from our deepest challenges, grounded in the assurance that God’s grace is sufficient.

3. The Source of Our Strength:

Real strength and courage are not born from our own capabilities or resources but from our reliance on God. Isaiah 40:31 assures us, “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” When we place our hope and trust in God, we tap into a divine reservoir of energy and resolve that far exceeds human limitations.

4. Encouraging One Another:

As a community of believers, we are called to support and encourage each other. Hebrews 10:24-25 exhorts us, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Our fellowship and unity strengthen us, making us bolder in facing life’s challenges.

Conclusively, dear friends, let us embrace the command to be strong and courageous, embedding it in our hearts and actions. Remember that we do not walk this journey alone; the Lord our God is with us every step of the way. With God as our Strength, let us go forward boldly, knowing that His Love and Power sustain us. Amen.
